1941 - Only two women were employed by the Weather Bureau. By 1945, more than 900 women are employed by the Weather Bureau as observers and forecasters, as a result of filling positions of men during World War II. Eleven days after Pearl Harbor, the Army requested that all weather broadcasts be discontinued. The fear was that the enemy would use this information to plan an attack on the United States.

About Green Bluff, WA

Green Bluff is a small unincorporated farming community and census-designated place in Spokane County, Washington, it is named after a nearby cliff. Its elevation is 2,310 feet (700 m). The 2010 census population was 761. The 2010 census was the first time the community has been recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau. The town has a grange hall, church, fire station and general store and is known for equestrian properties as well as small farms. Located just 15 minutes drive north of Spokane, Green Bluff is a popular destination among locals for fruit picking. It hosts various festivals throughout the year, highlighted by the annual fall festival during the apple and pumpkin harvests.
